The home insurance market

Australia has 0 APRA-authorised general insurers, but only a handful carry retail home risk — and they sell it through 46 different consumer brands. We also hold 0 revoked licences, which is what explains names like AAMI and GIO surviving as trading names long after their own licence was extinguished.

Find your brand below and you'll see which APRA-authorised entity actually carries the risk.

What a shared underwriter does and doesn't tell you. It identifies whose balance sheet ultimately pays a claim. It does not mean two brands are the same deal:

Where a brand shares a carrier with others, treat it as a prompt to check the wording and the claims record — not as proof the policies are interchangeable.

How solid is this?

Carriers come from APRA's register under s.122 of the Insurance Act 1973. Brand-to-carrier edges carry the evidence they were established from; confidence 1.0 means quoted from the brand's own disclosure or APRA, 0.6 means reported by a secondary source and not yet re-verified.

Carriers are refreshed from APRA's register — the register is the only authoritative statement of who may carry the risk, so a brand whose underwriter isn't on it is a red flag, not a rounding error. Rows marked reported came from a secondary source and need re-checking against the brand's own disclosure before we'd show them to a customer as fact.

Can we tell whether shared-carrier brands sell the same product?

0 pairs of home brands share an underwriter, and 0 policy documents have had their wording fingerprinted. 0 same-carrier pairs currently have wording on both sides. 0 document(s) fingerprinted. No same-carrier brand pair yet has wording on both sides, so we cannot say whether any of them sell the same product.

Policy wording is compared after stripping branding, ABNs, URLs, phone numbers, dates and running headers, then shingling the remaining words and MinHashing them. Comparing the files themselves would be meaningless — the same policy under two brands has a different logo, cover page and footer, so the bytes never match.

A high score means the same words — it does not prove the same cover. One differing exclusion can matter more than a hundred identical paragraphs, so this is a screen that says which pairs are worth reading clause by clause, not a verdict.

Document coverage

We hold 0 Key Fact Sheets and 0 other product documents (PDS, SPDS). Against 46 home brands that is the gap to close — the KFS is the only government-formatted, directly comparable artefact in this market, so it is the highest-value thing to collect next.
